“Éco-Huronie is a not-for-profit ecological centre which works towards the sustainable development
of our community.  It ensures the promotion of rural economic development through agricultural activities, agri-culinary tourism and the education of its members concerning the environment, agriculture and healthy nutrition.”

The Garden-Jardin du Village

In 2010, a 2 acre garden was created on the grounds of the   retirement residence, Le Villageois in Lafontaine Ontario. We have been certified organic since 2011 by EcoCert Canada and our organic production increases.  With our large organic garden, we sell our produce in a CSA (community supported agriculture) box program from June to October each year, as well as to local restaurants.

Camp Éco-Explore

The camp began in 2012 at the Community Centre in Lafontaine with great success. In 2013 our summer camp was offered daily This year access to the camp is by reservation to groups of 8 or more persons of all ages. We have daily activities planned at the Jardin du Village. All activities are conducted in French and have an educational and ecological focus. The hands-on activities help children learn about growing food and their environment.

Agri-Tourism & Culinary Trail

Éco-Huronie also contributes to economic development through our efforts in agri-tourism.  Creating a map in 2009 and 2010 of producers in the area, Éco-Huronie is building upon this as a pilot project of Simcoe County Farm Fresh Marketing Assoc. through the creation of an agri-culinary trail.  The French culture and agricultural heritage known to the area will also be used to help attract tourists.
